FAQ's

Q: Why did you write this book?

A: There didn’t seem to be a book that provided a readable, moderate perspective on American social and political issues. I hope this is it.

Q: What is “finding the middle”?

A: “Finding the middle” is a way of approaching political questions that examines liberal, conservative and moderate positions with an eye to finding common ground. Often, this means combining the best liberal and conservative insights in unexpected ways.

Q: Why did you integrate bullet points into the book?

A: My goal is to make the information in the book as readable and as approachable as possible. Bullet points allow you to skip information you already know something about or are less interested in, and to focus in on the information you care about most.

Q: What were your sources?

A: My sources were a variety of newspapers, magazines and reports (many available online), and all available to the public. My goal was to draw on these sources in part to demonstrate that leading analysts and experts have already proposed compelling solutions to the policy questions we face today.

Q: What political experience do you have?

A: I’ve worked on presidential campaigns (for both Republicans and Democrats), although not as a paid staffer. I also write at Centerblog, a centrist web log. (A link to the blog is available on this website).

Q: Why give the book away for free on your website?

A: The idea is to create a “viral” mechanism to spread the word about the book. Your access to the book depends on how many people you email (see the “Download” section on the site for details). If you like what you download, you’re more likely to want to pay for the book. (Or at least that’s what I hope).
